When we think of our senses, most of us think of the five we learned in school: taste, touch, sight, smell, and hearing. But did you know that we actually have at least eight senses? And all of them play a powerful role in how we experience the world—and how we behave within it.
At the Joyful Sensory Parenting Conference, we’ll go beyond the basics and explore the hidden senses that are quietly shaping our everyday lives:
* Proprioception – Our sense of body position, posture, and movement. It’s what helps us coordinate our limbs and apply the right amount of pressure or force—whether we’re holding a pencil, giving a hug, or navigating a crowded room.
* Vestibular – Our sense of balance and spatial orientation. This helps us know whether we’re moving or still, right-side up or upside down, and how our body is moving through space.
* Interoception – Our internal sense of what’s going on inside our bodies—like hunger, thirst, temperature, pain, the need to use the bathroom, or even how emotions feel physically.
These sensory systems operate largely beneath our awareness, yet they are constantly influencing our behavior, mood, attention, energy, and even how we connect with others.
So, why does this matter for parenting?
Because sensory processing can be a major factor in what drives behavior.
When a child is melting down, refusing to eat certain foods, covering ears, struggling to sleep, bouncing off the walls, or simply “not listening”—there’s almost always a sensory story behind it.
And the same goes for us as parents.
When we’re reactive, impatient, or running on empty, we may also be overlooking the sensory overload or unmet needs happening inside ourselves.
At the Joyful Sensory Parenting Conference on Saturday, August 23, we’ll uncover how understanding sensory processing can transform not just how we respond to our children—but how we respond to ourselves.
You’ll learn how to:
- Recognize your own unique sensory patterns and how they impact your parenting
- Understand your child’s behavior through a sensory lens
- Build strategies that support both of your needs without burnout or shame
- Move from survival mode into intentional, joyful parenting that works for your family
Because when you understand the sensory root of what’s happening, you stop blaming behavior—and start building connection, trust, and growth.
You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to be equipped with joyful sensory awareness.
And we’d love to equip you with the tools, language, and support to thrive.
